Tucked away in a fascinating mountain world, the Mauterndorf Castle in Salzburger Land is far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, yet an easy destination to reach nonetheless. From an art-historical standpoint, it is simply a unique jewel that will bring you back in time to the late medieval period. Also awaiting you are visits to the Lungau Museum of Folk History and the 44 m high fortified tower with a captivating view of Mauterndorf and the adjacent mountain world.
Austria’s highest narrow-gauge railway offers a major bang for your buck. Chartered train rides can also be booked from June to September with advance registration. Chartered “nostalgia” steam trains or diesel trains can be rented out for company outings, club trips, or wedding parties.
